Dracast Pro Series LED500 Bi-Color LED Video Light Panel with V-Mount Battery Plate Overview
The Dracast Pro Series has been a cornerstone of the Dracast catalog for many years. Uncompromising build quality, high light output, and compact design has made the Dracast Pro Series an instrument of choice for professionals in the broadcast and film industries.
This kit includes one (1) Pro Series 500 LED panel in bi-color 3200K – 5600K variable color temperature. Also included with each panel is A/C power adapter, v-mount battery plate, and nylon padded travel case.
At just 4.0 lb, the LED500 Pro Series Bi-Color light panel is an ideal choice for location work, interviews, and small sets where color accuracy, control, and high-CRI light output are of major importance. Variable color temperature from 3200K-5600K means that you can quickly match the prevailing ambient or artificial light balance with a simple turn of a knob on the back of the panel.
Dimming is equally convenient via the large manual control knob that adjusts the light intensity from 0-100%, with negligible color shift. The durable anodized aluminum frame is supported by an oversized, U-shaped yoke with locking knobs on each side and a standard 5/8″ (baby pin) receiver.

The package came nicely sealed by Dracast, inside the paper box, the light was sealed inside anti-static plastic bag. So I knew this was un-opened and brand new. Tested the light was nice and bright, it has an alternating LED diodes, one set for bright white, and the alternating for warm ones. The knobs were sturdy and responsive to the tuning.

For a year I only used one Dracast LED500 bi-color and a smaller Dracast bi-color light. The Dracast lights were used to replace two generic brand led lights I brought off eBay. When compared to the Dracast lights, the look of my videos stepped up tremendously. I wanted to throw the generic brand away. My primary kit consist of one 2k fresnel, 1k, two 500watt and a 250watt tungsten light. I’m a fan of tungsten lights for skin tones, but not a fan of the heat output. I’ve shot interviews, along with a mini commercial with the two light set up. Recently I worked with a director who had just purchased two Dracast LED500 with accessories. All together we use three LED500 to shoot a short film. I was blown away how well the lights held up on set. The quality of light paired with a V-mount battery makes them a portable work horse. After the shoot, I purchase 3 additional Dracast LED500 bi-color lights to add to my light kit. Note: the zips on the bag are not the best. All zippers broke on the previous Dracast light. You can purchase a zipper repair kit online. If purchasing more than two I highly recommend Impact LKB-4B case. It’s not too big and fits the lights perfectly!

This is a good lighting instrument for a back light or other compact environment. The color range let me warm up the backlight when combined with other daylight-balanced keys. Very solid yoke construction means the light firmly locks into position when you tighten it down. That’s important when you attach a heavy battery for DC power. I recommend the barndoors to give you better control of focus and spill. Great value and a good addition to my lighting arsenal!

This is a great light and I own other Dracast products and they all perform extremely well. I’m very happy with this lighting line and would recommend them to any serious user.

First half hour after unpacking this Dracast LED 500 it was on our light stand and read to go for a series of indoor streeter interviews we were shooting inside a wood panelled room in the lower level of an office building with large north facing windows. It was so easy to turn the dial to get the right colour balance and it threw off more than enough light at 7 feet from our subjects. We didn’t use the softbox as we hadn’t unpacked all the goodies yet. Love it.

I already had a couple Dracast LED500 Silver Series lights that operate with NPF Battery power. This Pro version seems to be more heavy-duty than the Silver Series one. I recommend getting the optional barn doors for these. And this is important: you must use TWO NPF Batteries with each fixture. Unlike my original LED500s which can be powered with one OR two NPFs if you want to. A very good fixture for the price.

Elegant compact unit. Solid construction. Plenty of output. Adjustable color temperature and intensity is a plus. Nice carrying case keeps everything together and easy transport. This is my second Dracast light. They have never let me down. I’ve used them for recording video and as a light source for digitizing slides with the Nikon D850 and ES2 slide and film digitizer.

This light is bright and color balanced. I use it for a figure drawing session. It provides adequate light and it can be dimmed to affect the mood of the gesture. Very nice light.

This is a nicer unit than I expected, it seems we’ll built, nicely designed and with nice functionality. It has two rotary dials on the back, one for color cast and one for brightness with workable ranges for both. I’m glad I bought it, nice piece. The barn doors work great, the diffuser could diffuse more, I didn’t get the colored bells, but I will to best compliment the kind of work I do.!

Just tested these lights yesterday and they are quite powerful, and the tripods are solid. The only immediate suggestion would be for the company to secure the plastic lens covers so they don’t just slide off so easily when you’re setting up.

Nice light. The controls on the back aren’t the typical color temperature and dimmer. Rather each control dims or brightens its particular color. One for Tungsten and one for Daylight. Love the build quality and overall finish. Looks great for sure. The V-Mount is the real winner here too!

This bi-color LED light is bright and powerfull to my lighting needs. I use this mostly as my main light for my video interview. The color adjustment is very helpfull when i use this with my other lights that has different color temperature. It comes with a carrying bag to carry around on shoot location.

I don’t have any experience with LED lighting. I did a quick setup and test after receiving this gear and am very impressed. I think this will take some of my work beyond the old lighting and for sure quicker, easier, and better! I am shooting product for a small business and looking forward to the next shoot. I will likely shoot some of the online shots I have done as I see possibility to improve them. Nice product and I do recommend them.

This LED panel is very high quality. Robust and metal body. One of the best built LED panels I’ve handled. The knobs are smooth and easy to operate. The V-mount battery option is a massive plus for me as I’m always shooting in locations with no power outlets. No flicker. Smaller than I imagined, with a very soft throw as a bare panel. I’m using this as a fill or backlight and the quality of light, although soft, is very nice. I got the barn doors and diffusion panels sold separately and it definitely increased the functionality of the light. Those add ones are a must if you want to get the most out of this light. Since this is a bi-color light, you lose light output depending on the color temperature you select. I did not have any color shifting issues when increasing power output. The time of this light is very robust, and has teeth so that it locks in the position you tilt it into. This can make it hard to make quick small adjustments but once you set it, this light isn’t going anywhere. Make sure you get a sand bag and light stand with a bigger load capacity if you want to really get the most out of this unit.

This is a good light. Being able to change the color temperature is great. It’s not a really bright light, but it does the job. This is good for video interviews and photos where you don’t want to use a flash for fear of washing out the colors. The price was right. Two inconvenient things. 1) The light needs to be positioned up side down on the bracket to be stored in the bag. This allows the clear filter to fall out of it. So you have to be aware that you need to remove the filter before flipping the light around on the bracket before storage. 2) Of the four lights I orders, the zippers on three of the cases broke. The zippers have two tabs, so you can still zip up the bag if one tab breaks. Dracast replace one of the bags. But one of the tabs on the new bag broke off the first time it was unzipped. The bags are the right size and shape, but the zippers on the bags are a very low quality. So you will probably want to buy a better quality bag to store the light in.

I recently purchased 2 of these lights (v mount battery) with stands while they were on sale, they produce ample light for Head Shots and small groups of individuals from 1 to 6 east to adjust, set up and our very portable. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the v mount battery pack containing 2 batteries and charger is 200.00 dollars more than I paid for the 2 lights and stands

I bought one, and then purchased 2 more. I also bought a 1000 and a 160. If I had any complaint, I’d say the filters fall out way too easily. One thing to consider is that 50% of the diodes are daylight and the other 50% are tungsten. You can use the full power of the lights at tungsten if you get the filter. It’s closer anyway.

I admit I jumped on this light when it came up as a deal on BH. While I use Astras regularly on big jobs I wanted something small and lightweight that could knock around to do quick setups. This light certainly fit the bill. I had picked up a small Dracast LED earlier and thought this would be a nice add. I wish I got 2 now.

I’ve been using these lights for over a year now to create videos for YouTube on my channel (TheMadHermit). I got these to replace my previous CFL-based light set and have been extremely pleased as they are way smaller then my previous solution and feature variable intensity (0 – 100%) and color temperature (3,200K – 5,600K) controls. The sturdy aluminum frame is a beautiful cobalt blue making it an attractive addition as well. V-Mount battery connectors allow you to use these lights in the field (Keep in mind that batteries are not included) and a nylon travel bag allows you to safely pack them up for your mobile needs.

We had another version of this and were using it for the past 2 years. It was daylight only. This one has two different colors and that is perfect for what we are looking for. It’s not as bright but works well and portable. Definitely a good entry level for anyone trying to do more video work.
